In the restaurant

There is step-free access at the entrance and accessible seating inside. If you need a particular table held, or you would rather order without queuing at the counter, call ahead on +1 (747) 316-1111 and we will arrange it. Nobody will make it awkward.

The room is loud when it is full. If that is a problem, earlier in the day and earlier in the week are much quieter, and we are happy to advise on a time.

On this website

This site aims at WCAG 2.2 AA. Specifically it provides:

• A skip link to the main content, and a logical heading structure on every page.
• Keyboard access to every interactive element, including the menu, tabs and accordions, with visible focus indicators.
• ARIA states on the navigation, tab panels and accordions so screen readers announce them correctly.
• Full respect for prefers-reduced-motion — every animation, parallax effect and transition is disabled when your system requests it.
• Text that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320px, and every text colour measured against the AA contrast threshold rather than eyeballed — including the small red type the brand leans on, which is set a shade darker than the logo red for exactly this reason.
• Links inside running text are underlined, not distinguished by colour alone.
• German words on an English page — menu names, section labels — are marked up as German, so a screen reader pronounces Käsekrainer as German rather than spelling its way through it.
• Wide tables scroll on their own and can be scrolled from the keyboard.
• A site that works with JavaScript disabled: content is server-rendered, and animation is progressive enhancement only.
• An accessibility toolbar — the round button in the bottom-left corner of every page — with larger text, a readable font, high contrast, underlined links and a stop-animations switch. Your choices are remembered on this device.

Every page is checked against the automated axe rule set at both desktop and phone widths. Automated checks catch roughly half of what matters, so they are a floor, not a pass mark.

Where we know it falls short

Photography on this site is currently placeholder, so alt text is minimal. That is being addressed as real images are added.

The longer German passages in the journal are not individually marked up as German, only the short labels and dish names.

Nothing here has been tested with a screen reader by someone who uses one daily. That is the gap we would most like to close — if you use one and something reads badly, please tell us.
